Success can look very impressive from the outside.

The business grows. The money comes in. The properties are bought. The goals that once felt impossible start becoming real. And still, somewhere underneath all of that, a person can be carrying questions they have never fully answered.

Who am I without the work?
When is enough actually enough?
What did I sacrifice to get here?
And what parts of me did I have to silence just to survive?

In this episode of Leaders With a Mission, I sit down with Angel Fernandez, author of Who Is Max Lewis?, for a conversation that goes far beyond business, money, and achievement.

Angel’s story is full of ambition, discipline, painful lessons, complicated family dynamics, betrayal, resilience, and the kind of self-reflection that only happens when someone is willing to look honestly at what shaped them. What began as a conversation about his book became something much deeper: a look at the identity we build around success, the wounds we carry into our ambition, and the moment we realize that making money is only one part of building a meaningful life.

There is something powerful about hearing someone talk about success without pretending it was clean, easy, or perfect. Angel shares the mindset that helped him build, negotiate, invest, and grow, but he also opens the door to the emotional cost of always pushing, always proving, and always trying to become the version of yourself you thought would finally feel safe.

This conversation reminded me that leadership is not only about what we build. It is also about what we heal. It is about learning how to enjoy the life we worked so hard to create. It is about knowing when the chase has become a habit. It is about using our story to help someone else see their own life differently.

Because sometimes the biggest transformation is learning that we do not have to keep living in survival mode once we have already made it out.
